The Full Roof Replacement Timeline
From first click to completed installation, a SquareDash roof replacement typically takes 2-3 weeks. The actual work on your roof takes 1-3 days. Here's what happens at each stage.
Step 1: Get Your Instant Estimate (Day 1, 30 Seconds)
Enter your address on SquareDash. Our satellite technology measures your roof's exact square footage, pitch, and complexity. You get a binding price instantly. No phone calls, no scheduling, no waiting for someone to come to your house.
Step 2: Book Your Project (Day 1-2)
If the price works, book online. Choose your material tier (Good, Better, Best), pick your shingle color, and select your preferred installation window. You'll get a confirmation with your crew assignment and installation date.
Step 3: Permits and Preparation (Days 3-10)
SquareDash handles all permit applications in your jurisdiction. This typically takes 3-7 business days depending on your local building department. During this time, we also coordinate material delivery and crew scheduling.
Before installation day, you'll receive a preparation checklist:
- Move vehicles from the driveway (we need space for the dumpster and material delivery)
- Remove fragile items from walls and shelves (the hammering vibrates)
- Note any sprinkler heads or plants near the foundation
- Secure or kennel pets on installation day
Step 4: Installation (Days 1-3 on Site)
Here's what a typical installation day looks like:
- Morning (7-8 AM): Crew arrives, sets up safety equipment, and positions the dumpster
- Morning-Midday: Tear-off of existing shingles and inspection of decking
- Midday-Afternoon: Replace any damaged decking, install underlayment and ice & water shield
- Afternoon: Install new shingles, flashing, ridge vent, and drip edge
- End of day: Clean up, magnetic sweep for nails, haul away debris
Most standard roofs (under 2,500 sq ft, moderate pitch) are completed in a single day. Larger or more complex roofs may take 2-3 days. Read about whether you can stay home during the replacement.
Step 5: Final Inspection (Days 1-3 After Installation)
After installation, we submit for municipal inspection if required by your jurisdiction. The inspector verifies that the work meets code requirements. Most inspections pass on the first visit.
Total timeline summary: Estimate (instant) + Booking (same day) + Permits (3-7 days) + Installation (1-3 days) + Inspection (1-3 days) = 2-3 weeks total. The traditional process with in-person estimates, multiple quotes, and scheduling often takes 4-8 weeks.
What About Weather Delays?
Rain is the main delay risk. Shingles can't be installed on wet decking. If rain is forecast for your installation day, we'll reschedule proactively and keep you updated. Most weather delays add 1-3 days to the timeline.
