Roofing Term

Gable

A gable is defined as the triangular section of wall between the edges of intersecting roof pitches, forming the peaked end of a building. A gable roof is the most common roof shape in residential construction, consisting of two sloping sides that meet at a central ridge. Gable roofs are economical to build and provide excellent attic ventilation but are more vulnerable to wind uplift than hip roofs in hurricane-prone regions.
