Roofing Term
Drip Edge
Drip edge is defined as an L-shaped metal flashing strip installed along the eaves and rakes of a roof to direct water runoff away from the fascia and into the gutter system. The IRC requires drip edge on all asphalt shingle roofs as of the 2012 code cycle. Standard drip edge is made from galvanized steel or aluminum in profiles of 2x2 inches or 2x3 inches and is installed beneath the underlayment at the eaves and over the underlayment at the rakes.
